London Stock Exchange Group welcomes The Association of Marshall Scholars, US-UK Legislative Exchange

London Stock Exchange Group today welcomes the Association of Marshall Scholars during their 2021 US-UK Legislative Exchange. This year’s visiting delegation includes nine members of the U.S. Congress including: Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA), Dr. Neal Dunn (R-FL), Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), and Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH).

Created by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1953 as a living gift to the United States in recognition of the generosity of Secretary of State George C. Marshall and the Marshall Plan in the wake of World War II, the goal of the Marshall Scholarship was to strengthen the Special Relationship between the two countries for "the good of mankind in this turbulent world." The scholarships are awarded by the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission and are largely funded by the British government.

The Association of Marshall Scholars, formed in 1988, is the association for the alumni of the Marshall Scholarship to support and publicize the aims of the Marshall Scholarship Program, and enhance the experience of Marshall Scholars Studying in the United Kingdom.  The US-UK Legislative Exchange is a program created in 2019 with the goal of deepening US-UK ties and mutual transatlantic understanding. The program supports bipartisan and multi-party dialogue between members of the US Congress and members of the UK government (including members of Parliament).

The program includes a series of educational seminars and expert briefings with Marshalls and other leaders in academia and the private sector, in order to facilitate discussion and shared understanding across a range of issues of critical concern to both countries. The program has a purely educational purpose, does not promote a partisan or political agenda, and is intended to continue to foster US-UK understanding, an objective underpinning the Marshall Scholarship.
