2020 has been a memorable year for London Stock Exchange’s Sustainable Bond Market (SBM).
Already home to the first certified green bonds out of China, India, and the Middle East, and to the first sovereign green bonds from Asia Pacific and the Americas, SBM welcomed 39 bonds
London’s capital markets ecosystem showed its mettle during the pandemic. Public markets quickly supported businesses and institutions in raising funds to shore up balance sheets and continue to fund growth and innovation.
445 businesses returning to the market raising £40.8bn in follow-on capital (67% more than in 2019). Over £73bn was raised through COVID-19 response bonds, includingEmerging Europe and Central Asian issuers have been active in 2020, as we’ve seen a flurry of first-time issuers and local currency bonds from the region come to our markets.
